JOOLA Ben Johns Perseus Pro IV (16mm) — Review
The Perseus Pro IV keeps landing at the top of independent "best overall" lists, and after a few months with it I get why. There isn't a real hole in its game. Power, control and spin all sit at a high level, which is exactly what you want once you've outgrown a starter paddle but aren't ready to commit to one extreme.

What stood out
- Balanced everywhere. Drives, resets and dinks all feel natural. There's no dead zone that punishes you.
- Forgiving edges. The foam-injected edge wall pushes the sweet spot out to the corners, so mishits stay in play.
- Short learning curve. No awkward adjustment period. It's playable from the first rally.
What to weigh
- The price. Around $250 is a commitment. It works as a "keep for years" paddle, less so as a first one.
- Not a beginner starter. A newer player won't feel the difference versus a $120 build yet.
Who it's for
If you've been playing six months or more, want one paddle that carries you from intermediate to serious, and value all-court flexibility over a single extreme, this is our top recommendation. Brand new? Start with a $100 paddle and upgrade later.
Verdict
Best overall A genuine do-it-all paddle. Buy it once, grow into it, and it won't hold you back as your game improves.
